In September 2013 Honor Oak nursery successfully transferred to SunriSE Community Nurseries, after being a Council-run service for many years. With government cuts threatening the closure of the nursery, we were delighted to be able to keep it open. The setting is conveniently located within walking distance of Crofton Park, Nunhead, Brockley and Honor Oak train stations and several bus routes.
SunriSE is formed of a voluntary board of trustees as well as a full team of paid staff and management. The Board consists of a group of parents, professionals and local people who feel passionate about delivering these services. Our staff are experienced, dedicated Nursery Practitioners and Managers, many of whom transferred with us from the council-managed nursery. We are proud of our excellent record for staff length of service and progression – this means more consistent and reliable people in your child’s and your lives.
The SunriSE model is based on delivering not-for-profit nursery care. Because we do not need to take profits from the service, we can use that money to invest in a better nursery, through offering higher staff salaries and benefits for better retention, reducing customer fees, purchasing more equipment and so on. We believe that this results in a higher standard of care for your children.
We were awarded an Ofsted rating of ‘Good’ last year and continue to strive for the best possible care for children, many of whom join us while babies and progress through from our dedicated baby room, through to 2-3 year old rooms and finally our pre-school until until they graduate from SurniSE to start primary school.
Our premises are purpose-built, meaning an environment perfectly suited to caring for children and for learning through play. We have generous outdoor spaces and equipment complementing our main building, so all children get to enjoy the outside world.
All food is prepared on site by our own nursery chef. Balanced, nutritious meals and snacks are made from locally sourced ingredients and served to the children at appropriate times and in communal settings. All dietary needs are fully catered for.
We have many plans for the future, such as enhanced services like school wrap-around care, play-groups and parent sessions, school holiday clubs and partnerships with child development institutions. As a community organisation we welcome the participation of parents and locals. Please let the Trustees or the nursery management know if you would like to be involved in any way.
